ISPs¶
The ISPs page lists the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) known to your Surfmeter instance. ISPs are used for client contracts and for attributing measurements to a network. Most ISPs are created automatically as measurements are processed, but you can also create them manually.
ISP list¶
The table shows every ISP with its name, country, and type (fixed line, mobile, or VPN provider). You can sort and filter the table.
Creating an ISP¶
Users with permission to manage ISPs can create one manually using the button at the top of the page. Manually created ISPs are marked as verified. Provide a name, country, and type to get started; further details can be added from the ISP's detail page.
ISP details¶
Click on an ISP to open its detail page. This shows:
- Type, country, VPN status, verification status, and creation date.
- Alternative names and autonomous system (AS) numbers associated with the ISP.
- The number of measurements attributed to this ISP.
- A table of client contracts that use this ISP (see Managing Clients for how contracts are set up).
- A table of recent measurements associated with this ISP, with the usual filters and time range controls. Use "View in Explorer" to jump to the full Measurements Explorer pre-filtered to this ISP.
Editing an ISP¶
From the detail page, users with permission can edit the ISP's name, country, type, and VPN status.
Warning
Changing an ISP's name affects how future measurements are labeled, but historical data in Elasticsearch retains the old name.
Merging ISPs¶
If the same provider was recorded under two different ISP entries (for example, due to a naming variation), you can merge them from the detail page. Choose the target ISP that should survive the merge; its contracts, ISP details, and AS numbers are reassigned, and the merged-away ISP is kept as an alternative name of the target before being deleted.
A warning is shown if the two ISPs differ in country or type, since this usually indicates that one of them was misattributed.
Deleting an ISP¶
An ISP can only be deleted once it has no contracts or measurements referencing it.
