Reviewing Saved Results¶
Analyses of long files take time. Save the results once with -o, and review them later in the terminal view with view, without running the analysis again.
Opening a saved run¶
surfmeter-media analyze -o results/channel1 channel1.ts
surfmeter-media view results/channel1/records.ndjson
The view is the same as with --tui during the analysis: timeline, summary and events. Press ? for the list of keys (see Basic Usage).
The results of compare open in the comparison view, with the reference and all encodes:
Comparing runs¶
Pass several record files to view to show the runs side by side, without decoding anything. This is useful to compare:
- the same channel recorded on different days, for example before and after a change of the encoder configuration
- two encoders that received the same feed
- results from different sites
The inputs of all runs are drawn as tracks on the same timeline. Select an input with 1–9, or [ and ], and press v to switch between the comparison and the analysis view.
Following a running analysis¶
view - reads the records from standard input while they arrive. You can use this to watch an analysis on a remote server from your own terminal:
The analysis runs on the server, while the terminal view runs locally.
Saving snapshots¶
Press s in the view to save a snapshot of the current state. The toolkit writes two files into the current directory (or into the output directory of the run):
surfmeter-media-<time>.txt: the screen as text, for example to paste into a ticket or an e-mailsurfmeter-media-<time>.json: the summary shown on screen
view does not change the saved files and does not compute missing metrics. To add metrics to a saved run, run analyze or compare again with --tui and select the metrics with m.
