Map

The Measurements Map shows where measurements were taken, and how good their quality was in each area. Open it under Measurements Explorer > Map.

The map only includes measurements for which clients supplied geolocation data.

Choosing a view

Use the measurement type dropdown at the top to choose what the map shows:

  • All types (locations only) shows each measurement as a dot.
  • Video, Web, Network, Speedtest, or Conferencing shows KPI heatmaps for that type.

The map zooms to your measurements when the page loads and when you change the filters. After moving around, click Zoom to data to go back.

Use the time range picker to choose the period, and the filters to narrow down the measurements. The Share button copies a link to the current view.

Measurement locations

In the All types view, hover over a dot to see the time and type of the measurement. Click a dot to open its detail page.

If several measurements were taken close to each other, they are combined into a cluster. Click a cluster to zoom in.

KPI heatmaps

When you select a measurement type, the map is split into boxes. Each box shows the average KPI value of the measurements inside it. Hover over a box to see the value and the number of measurements. Click a box to zoom in.

Use these controls to set up the heatmaps:

  • KPIs – Select one or more KPIs. The map shows one heatmap per KPI. This selection is shared with the KPI charts.
  • Box size – Choose from small to extra large boxes. Larger boxes show coarse trends, smaller boxes show more detail.
  • Grouping – Show one heatmap per group, for example per ISP, ASN, service, or client tag. The grouping dimensions are the same as for the KPI charts.
  • Top N groups – Choose how many groups to show. The dashboard picks the groups with the most measurements in the whole time range.
  • Columns – Choose how many maps to show per row. On narrow screens, the dashboard always shows one map per row.

All maps move and zoom together. The dashboard remembers your box size, grouping, and column choices in your browser.

Note

For network measurements, select a subject or technology first, since the available KPIs depend on the network technology.

Colors

KPIs with quality grades, such as MOS, use fixed colors from red (bad) to dark green (best grade). The colors therefore mean the same thing on every map and at every zoom level. The legend lists each grade with its value range.

KPIs without grades use a scale from light to dark blue. This scale goes from the lowest to the highest value in view, so the colors change when you move the map. The legend shows the values at both ends of the scale.

Tip

The page has an empty strip to the right of the maps. Use the mouse wheel there to scroll the page without zooming a map.
